Senior Frontend Engineer
Northwind Labs · Remote (Europe / US East overlap)
About the role
Northwind Labs builds analytics tooling used by 400,000 people every month. You will own the shared component library that every product team builds on, work directly with design on the next iteration of the system, and mentor two mid-level engineers.
The team is nine people across four countries. We work asynchronously by default, with two overlapping hours a day and a written decision log rather than status meetings.
What you will do
- Own the design system implementation: components, tokens, documentation and release process
- Lead the migration of three legacy surfaces onto the new component library
- Set and enforce accessibility standards to WCAG 2.2 AA across the product
- Review architecture proposals and write the ones that shape the frontend platform
- Mentor two mid-level engineers through structured pairing and code review
What we are looking for
- Five or more years building production web applications, at least two with React and TypeScript
- Demonstrable experience of a shared component library or design system at scale
- Strong grasp of browser performance: bundle size, rendering, Core Web Vitals
- Comfortable writing clearly — proposals, documentation and review feedback
- Experience working in a distributed team across time zones
Nice to have
- Open-source contributions to tooling or component libraries
- Experience with data visualisation at scale
- Background in accessibility auditing
What we offer
- $98,000 – $124,000 base, benchmarked to the role rather than your location
- Fully remote with a €2,000 home-office budget and an annual hardware refresh
- 32 days of leave including public holidays, plus your birthday
- €2,500 annual learning budget and four company gatherings a year
- Private health cover and a pension contribution matched to 6%
The hiring process
- 30-minute screening call with the talent partner
- Take-home exercise, time-boxed to three hours
- Technical conversation with two engineers (60 minutes)
- Collaboration interview with the design and product leads (45 minutes)
- Final conversation with the CTO and an offer within two working days
